Joefes Talks On His Music Journey And New Album On Interview With Trace
Joefes is among the artists who have taken gengetone global through his new album, Niko Maji Naflood Market by collaborating with most creative artists in the music industry. He’s affably happy now, much like the rest of us, the last 12 months or so have been a rollercoaster of ups and downs for the Shamra Shamra hit maker. From working on Mbuzi Gang's projects to managing his own solo projects, the artist has now dropped the long awaited album for all of us to have a listen. During an interview with Trace Radio, Joefes enclosed his journey with his music, him coming together with Fathermoh and iPhoolish to form Mbuzi Gang and his present plus future map in the scenes. The open-minded artist admitted to first doing an Ep with Boondocks Gang before hopping on to Wagithomo where he teamed up with Fathermoh, while he and iPhoolish had fallen out due to personal reasons, back in 2019.
As an artist, Joefes doesn't think gengetone is dying, in fact, he stated plainly that the reasons why gengetone isn't active right now is due to the fact that the pioneers aren't putting the work in. "There are still people who do gentetone but they aren't being heard all round," Joefes said. He added that gengetone is mostly associated with many vices due to its explicit content but if the artists change their way of music, many people will embrace the songs.
Joefes admitted to listening to artists like Khaligraph Jones, King Kaka (while he was still Kaka Sungura), Blaqbones and Asaka. He is also a Nyashinski fan and wishes to do a collabo with him in future. On his new album, Niko Maji Naflood Market, Joefes stated that the album is not gengetone, he mashed up other music genres to show people that he, as an artist, can also do other genres.
The artist combined N.M.N.M for two years and instilled personal feeling and experiences to the project. The most outstanding track is the first one, Winner, which Joefes tagged it as an inspirational song to him. Other than N.M.N.M, Joefes has a new afrobeat set to premier soon where he has featured Black Market Records' Own Teslah and Unspoken Salaton. He also disclosed that Mbuzi Gang are working on a new project set to be released on 18th December 2022 with a follow-up album early next year.
